Note: if you are having trouble with an existing connection you can create a new connection by following the steps below


Creating A New DUN Configurations:

The easiest way to create a new DUN connection is through the Internet Connection Wizard (inetwiz).

If you do not have this Assistant, you can use the "Make New Connection" option within Dial-Up Networking.

Click Start, then Settings, then Network and Dial-Up Connections, as shown below.





Alternatively, open your "My Computer" icon .

Then open the blue link on the left marked "Network and Dial-Up Connections."




Or, you can click the Control Panel icon (in My Computer above), which opens the screen below:

Click the folder Network and Dial-Up Connections.





Whichever of the 3 routes you take, you'll end up at the Network and Dial-Up Connections window, below.

Click the Make New Connection icon to configure your dial-up settings.





The following screen will appears:

The Network Connection Wizard helps you configure a new DUN connection plus it also sets up the e-mail and news settings for a new connection.

Click Next to begin the process.





Select the option Dial-up to the Internet from the list of choices below:

Click Next to continue.





The Internet Connection Wizard appears.

Select the third option I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or I want to... .

Click Next to continue.





Select Connect using my phone line.

Click Next to continue.




Select Create a new dial-up connection.

Note: If there are no other connections set up in the DUN, INetWiz will skip this next screen.

Click Next to continue.





Area Code = leave this field blank.

Telephone number = field, type in the local-access number for our ISP. (This is NOT your telephone number. It's our number in your area.)

Remove the checkmark from Dial using the area code and country code.

Click the Advanced button.





Select the Addresses Tab.

IP address:

Leave this in the default setting of Internet service providers automatically provides one.

DNS server address:

Select the option Always use the following.

Primary DNS Server = enter 209.210.176.8

Alternate DNS Server = enter 209.210.176.9.

Click OK when finished.





We return to the following window:

Click Next to continue.





Username = enter the username you use to connect to the Internet. Include @ispname.com (or .net) to the end of the username.

Password = enter you password.

Important: passwords are cASe SenSiTiVE so be careful and make sure that your Caps Lock key is NOT activated.

Click Next to continue.





Connection name = you can leave the name as it is or you can change it to something more descriptive, such as our ISP's name.

You have now successfully set up a Dial-Up Networking Connection.

Click Next to set up your e-mail.





Click Yes to set up your email account. This will allow you to configure Outlook Express as your e-mail client.

Click Next to continue.

Note: If you prefer to not set up an e-mail account now or you do not wish to use Outlook Express, click "No".





Select the first option Create a new Internet mail account.

Click Next to continue.

Note: If there are no existing email accounts in Outlook Express, Inetwiz skips this screen.





Display Name = enter your name or a nickname.

Click Next to continue.





E-mail address = Enter the full e-mail address.

Click Next to continue.





Incoming mail server = mail.ispname.com. Outgoing mail server = mail.ispname.com. Replace the ispname.com with our ISP's info.

Note: When INetWiz is complete, open Outlook Express to enable SMTP Authentication. Click Here for help.





Account name = this should already be entered. It is the first part of your e-mail address. Do NOT add @ispname.com to the end of this.

Password = enter the email Password.

Check the box Remember password.

Do NOT check Logon using Secure Password Authentication.

Click Next to continue.




Click Finish to complete the Internet Connection Wizard.





Create a Shortcut:

On the Desktop, click Start -> Settings, and select Network and Dial-Up Connections from the menu (Shown below).





The Network and Dial-up Connections window opens.

Right click the desired connection and select Create Shortcut from the menu.




A window will pop-up to tell you that you can't create a shortcut here. You didn't want it there, anyway.

Click Yes to put the shortcut on your desktop.





The shortcut will look like the picture below. Click on it to connect to the Internet. Don't forget to open your browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) or your e-mail program after you've connected.
