Note: if you are having trouble with an existing connection you can create a new connection by following the steps below

Creating A New DUN Configurations:

Key Settings:

Username = follows this format: username@ispname.com with your username in place of "username" and ISP's Name in place of "ispname.com".

Dial-Up Numbers = Look for the "Dial-Up Locations" link on your ISP's main web site.

The easiest way to create a new DUN connection is through the Internet Connection Wizard (inetwiz).

If you do not have this Assistant, you can use the "Make New Connection" option within Dial-Up Networking.

open your "My Computer" icon . Then open the Dial-Up Networking folder:

Note: Click the "Make New Connection" icon if the setup wizard doesn't start automatically.

This first screen welcomes you the first time you open Dial-Up Networking. So, you shouldn't see it again after the first time. Click Next to continue.

Type a name for the computer you are dialing = Name the DUN connection after our ISP.

Select your modem from the drop-down list.

Click the Configure button.

The following window appears:

If you have a 56k, v90, or a v.92 modem, set the speed to 57600.

Click OK to close the window.

We return to the following window:

Click Next to continue.

The second screen in the DUN Wizard is for the phone number.

Area code = Leave the area code blank.

Telephone number = Put in the phone number with 3 or 4 commas at the end of the number for a more stable connection. For 10-digit dialing, put the area code in the phone number box (not the area code box).

If you are at work or in a hotel then you may need to dial 9 to get an outside line. In that case, place a 9,, in front of the phone number. Be sure to put one or two commas after the 9 so that the modem will wait for the phone line transition before beginning to dial the number. You may also need a comma at the front of the number to force the modem to wait for a dial tone.

Click Next to continue.

Click Finish.

Create a Shortcut:

Open your "My Computer" icon then open the Dial-Up Networking folder:

Right click the desired connection and select Create Shortcut from the menu.

A window will pop-up to tell you that you can't create a shortcut here. You didn't want it there, anyway.

Click Yes to place the shortcut on your desktop.

The shortcut will look like the picture below. Click on it to connect to the Internet. Don't forget to open your browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) or your e-mail program after you've connected.
