IUse the Connection Wizard to create or replace a dial-up connection. Click the Start button and select Control Panel as pictured below. Windows XP gives you the option to view the Control Panel in "Category View" or "Classic View". Click on "Switch to Classic View" if you prefer this mode. It's on the left side of the Control Panel. Both views are presented here.
This screen asks you to select a connection type. Select Connect to the Internet even if you have DSL. Click Next to continue. Select the option Set up my connection manually. Click Next to continue. Select the option Connect using a dial-up modem. Click Next to continue. Name the connection after your ISP. Click Next to continue. Phone number = be sure to include the area code if your area uses 10-digit dialing (you should already know if you do). You can disable call-waiting by adding "*70," to the beginning of the number. Click Next to continue. Generally, you choose the option Anyone's Use. Click Next to continue. User name = enter your username. Be sure to add @ispname.com to the end of the username so that it looks like an e-mail address. Password = enter your dial-up account's password. Confirm password = re-enter your dial-up account's password.
Note: If you select the option Make this my default Internet connection, you can connect to the Internet by opening Internet Explorer or another browser. You won't need to make a shortcut on your desktop to the connection. Internet Explorer will act as the shortcut. Click Next to continue. The next screen is a confirmation of the connection. Click Finish and you are ready to connect to the Internet.
