Gearbox has two types of dial settings. 'Dial Locations' describe where you are dialing from. 'Dialup Numbers' determine the number your computer dials to access the Internet.
To access the dial settings, click on the Manage menu and then on either dial option, as pictured below.

If your Apple toolbar does not have a 'Manage' menu, then you probably do not have Gearbox set as the active application in the Finder/Application Menu (top right-hand corner of the Macintosh desktop).
Dial Locations: (Dialing Properties)
A dial location describes where you are dialing from: your area code, call waiting, etc. If you travel with your computer, you may want to set up different Dial Locations for home and work. These can later be selected from a pull-down list in the 'Connect To' panel of Gearbox's Main Window (Click here for more info).
Click on the Manage menu and then on Dial Locations..., as pictured below.

The following screen will appear.

Make sure your area code is correct so that Gearbox can find the best dialup number for you. If you use 10-digit dialing, place a checkmark in the 'Always Dial As Long Distance' box. If you use 11-digit dialing, place a '1' in the 'Long Distance Access' field.
Many workplace systems and hotels require you to dial a "9" to get an outside line. If this applies to you, then put a 9 followed by two commas in the first 'Dial Prefix' field. The commas cause a slight delay of about two seconds to allow the phone lines to switch prior to dialing the phone number.
You can also put a *70,, in the 'Dial Prefix' field to disable call waiting.
The pull-down menu on the bottom right determines how numbers outside of your area code are handled.
Find Dialup Numbers:
A Dialup Number is the number your computer dials to access the Internet.
Click on the Manage menu and then on Find Dialup Numbers..., as pictured below.

The following screen will appear.

The 'Find Dialup Numbers' window will create a list of dialup numbers based on Area Code, State or City. The size of the list will depend on which one you choose. This list can be accessed later from a pull-down list in the 'Connect To' panel of Gearbox's Main Window, as shown in the next section.
Change Phone Number:
The 'Connect To' panel allows you to change dialup numbers & locations.
The dialup number is the number used to access the Internet. You can change this in the drop-down menu. If the number you want is not in the list, use the Find Dialup Numbers link at the top of the list to add extra numbers to the list. This subject is covered at the bottom of this page. Click here to go there now.
The dial location contains the settings (area code, call waiting, etc.) you'll need to dial out from your location. Click in the From field to change, add, or edit dial locations. Click here for information on this tool.

When your dialup number and dial location are correct, click on the 'Connect' button to dial the Internet.
Change List of Phone Numbers:
Click Manage -> Edit Phonebook... to change or add numbers to the list of available dial-up phone numbers.
Note: Advanced User Mode must be enabled in order to access the bottom three options of the Manage menu. If you do not see these, then you will need to go to Edit->Preferences to enable the Advanced User Mode. Click here for instructions.

The 'Edit Phonebook' tool can be accessed from the 'Edit Phonebook' option on the 'Manage' menu of the Apple toolbar. The Phonebook contains all access numbers available through your ISP. The only reason you would come here is if your ISP changed your local access number, and then directed you to manually update it.

Here, you can manually change the phone number for a city or add extra cities.
This covers everything you need to know about Gearbox's dial settings. For information on advanced configuration settings, take a look at the Advanced Settings page.
