Gearbox has three advanced configuration settings located on the 'Manage' menu of the Apple toolbar, as pictured below.
Note: Advanced User Mode must be enabled in order to access the bottom three options of the Manage menu. If you do not see these, then you will need to go to Edit->Preferences to enable the Advanced User Mode. Click here for instructions.

Add/Delete Configuration Sets:
Click Manage -> Configuration Sets... to add or modify extra Configuration Sets.
Note: Advanced User Mode must be enabled in order to access the bottom three options of the Manage menu. If you do not see these, then you will need to go to Edit->Preferences to enable the Advanced User Mode. Click here for instructions.

The 'Configuration Sets' window allows you to add and modify extra Configuration Sets.
A Configuration Set stores your settings for connecting, web browsing, e-mail, etc. If you share your computer with other people, the Configuration Sets allow you to switch between your setup and theirs. If you have a LAN in addition to your dialup Internet account, you can set up a separate Configuration Set for each. For mobile users, the Configuration Sets allow you to switch between work and home settings.

The picture above shows two configuration sets on the computer. The Configuration Set named "LAN" was created by clicking on the 'Duplicate' Button. To do this yourself, highlight 'MyISP Internet' and click 'Duplicate'.

Now rename "MyISP Internet Copy" to whatever you like. After clicking 'OK', click on 'Edit' and change the email address and the protocol settings (described in the next section).
Edit Active Set:
Click Manage -> Configuration Sets... to add or modify extra Configuration Sets.
Note: Advanced User Mode must be enabled in order to access the bottom three options of the Manage menu. If you do not see these, then you will need to go to Edit->Preferences to enable the Advanced User Mode. Click here for instructions.

The 'Configuration Sets' window allows you to add and modify extra Configuration Sets.
Highlight your configuration and click 'Edit' to make changes to nearly all Internet settings for your computer. This includes username/password, homepage, email/newsgroup/chat settings, proxies, PPP, DNS, TCP/IP, and modems.

After clicking 'Edit', the following screen appears.
'Account' tab:
'Your Name' is the name that will be displayed when people receive e-mail from you.
The 'User ID' is your dial-up username with @ispname.com on the end. Passwords are cASe SenSiTiVE.

'Protocol' tab:
The 'Protocol' tab should be left at the default settings of 'PPP' and 'Using PPP Server'. These are the correct settings for dialup Internet access.

If you have a LAN in addition to your dialup Internet account, you will probably want to set up a separate configuration set for each. Look at the Configuration Sets section for more info.
'DNS' tab:
Set the DNS numbers: 209.210.176.8 and 209.210.176.9.
If you are experiencing problems browsing to certain websites, this may be the first place to look for a problem.

'PPP' tab:
For a dialup Internet account, the 'PPP' tab should be set to authenticate automatically. If you checkmark 'Allow Applications To Initiate Connection', Internet Explorer or Outlook Express, for example, would connect for you (without opening Gearbox).

'Modem' tab:
The 'Modem' Tab lists the modem on your computer. These are advanced settings, so leave these alone unless your ISP's technical support takes you here.

'E-Mail' tab:
The incoming "POP Server" mail server address is usually mail.ispname.com. The outgoing "SMTP Server" mail server is usually mail.ispname.com.
The "Mail user ID" is the same as the first part of your e-mail address (everything before the '@' symbol).
The password looks like **** because it's encrypted.
Note: If your email address is different from your dialup username, make sure to verify the Return Address. Gearbox may get confused and mistakenly enter your dialup username in place of the Return Address.

'WWW' tab:
The 'WWW' Tab is where you can change your web browser's homepage. The homepage is the first page you see when you open Internet Explorer or Netscape.

'News' tab:
Most people don't use the news server capacity of their Internet connection. Nevertheless, you can have Gearbox configure Outlook or Netscape to download various newsgroups. Just be sure to click the little box to add a checkmark where it says "Use Special News Server Authentication" so that you can connect to us.
The news server address is news.ispname.com replacing the ispname.com part with your ISP info.

'Chat' tab:
You can configure your IRC client here. There are a bunch of different "IRC" systems across the Internet. Each will have its own settings. Your ISP support group won't know these settings so go to the specific IRC home page for your chat program to get setup details.

'Proxies' tab:
If your ISP offers web filtering for questionable websites, you would enter proxy server settings here. Most ISPs only have an HTTP proxy. They don't filter e-mail, ftp, etc.
The proxy address is available from your ISP support center.

This covers every tab of the 'Edit Configuration Set' window.
