Preferences:

Gearbox's 'Preferences' allow you to change options that affect the behavior of Gearbox.

To access the Preferences, click on the Edit menu and select Preferences, as pictured below. If you do not see these same options on the 'Edit' menu, then you probably to not have Gearbox set as the active application in the Finder/Application Menu (top right corner of the Macintosh desktop). Click here for info.

The 'Preferences' window appears.

The seven check-boxes at the top deal mainly with notification screens and sounds. The default settings are pictured below. You can change these to suit your personal preferences.

The User Mode at the bottom determines which menu items appear in your Macintosh's main toolbar.

The default Web, Email, News and Chat clients can be changed here as well. This only affects which program is opened when clicking the corresponding quick-launch button of Gearbox's Main Window. (Click here for info on the the Quick-launch bar.)

For example, if you prefer Netscape Navigator over Internet Explorer, click on the 'Set WWW App...' button to open the following box. Browse your 'Hard Drive' to choose Netscape. Now clicking the 'Web' button on the Main Window opens Netscape instead of Internet Explorer.

This covers everything you need to know about the Preferences menu. Take a look at the Advanced Settings for all other configuration options.
